<title>Bristol Downswatch Web Site Established, July 2008</title>
<link>http://www.bristoldownswatch.org.uk/index.html</link>
<description>A website has been established to counter any proposed drastic changes
to the landscape of the Bristol Downs and Avon Gorge. We descibe the petition of
2003, which raised 1000 signatures to oppose further tree felling in Walcombe Slade,
and measures such as the introduction of feral goats into the Gorge area. The threat
has not gone away, and officials are still beavering away with similar plans to idyllize
the Bristol Downs and Avon Gorge landscape. Whilst the plans put forward by Bristol
City Council and the Merchant Venturers have much to recommend, heavy handed macro
environmental management is not one of them. A light touch is needed.</description>
