The Google Hybrid Map shows the names of the surrounding roads and places on the Bristol Downs, the Avon Gorge and Leigh Woods. Note that the Downs are called "Westbury Park" by Google! You can choose to look at the roads only, or to look at the Satellite view, also to zoom in or out, and to move the map centre.
As a start look at the inevitable damage done to the Downs by the various activities that it supports, there is a heavy network of paths, football pitches are very obvious, as are the regions used for fun fairs, the Flower Show, etc. Of particular concern to Downs Watch is the region used by Bristol Zoo for paid car parking (at the southern end of Ladies Mile).
Zooming in on the map will reveal parked cars (some illegally on the grass by the Peregrine Watch!), and even individual people.
We plan to use this map, with markers {still to be added, Sept 2008}, to illustrate aspects of our concerns about the Bristol Downs and the Avon Gorge.
