References Pertinent to the management of the Downs and Avon Gorge

JNCC (Joint Nature Conservation Committee) with a section on the Avon Gorge Woodlands.

JNCC is the statutory adviser to Government on UK and international nature conservation. Its work contributes to maintaining and enriching biological diversity, conserving geological features and sustaining natural systems. JNCC delivers the UK and international responsibilities of the four country nature conservation agencies - Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside, the Countryside Council for Wales, Natural England and Scottish Natural Heritage.

Bristol City Council web site has a vast amount of information (a total of nearly 30MB of Adobe .pdf files, see below), concerning environmental planning, maps, history and background information as applied to the draft management plan for the Downs. The Council take their responsibility for the Downs very seriously. The files on the Council website (good bedtime reading!) are at the bottom of the above page under "Related Documents", it is a shame that they have not been presented as html files so that they are more accessible via the web:
